The WJB Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking a Board Certified Anesthesiologist (Physician) to work on an as needed basis (PRN or INTERMITTENT WO! RK SCHEDULE) in the Anesthesia Service. The Columbia VAMC is a 112 bed tertiary care hospital with an attached 94 bed community living center and major affiliate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and supports the University of South Carolina School of Medicine residency program with VA-supported positions. Medical, nursing, and allied-health students also train at the Columbia VA. The hospital supports a primary care population in excess of 73,000 patients and provides specialty, subspecialty, and ancillary care to that population of patients as needed. Applicants will be referred weekly every Friday, this announcement may be closed at an earlier date if a selection is made prior to the closing date. The WJB Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is seeking a board certified/board eligible anesthesiologist to work in our Anesthesia Service. Call is every forth night and one weekend a month. Holidays are divided evenly among the anesthesia staff. Staff anesthesiologist will perform 60% to 70% of own cases and 30 to 40% CRNA supervision. BCLS and ACLS are required. Non-citizen candidates can only be referred and considered when there are no qualified United States citizen applicants.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL-TIME POSITION; ! TOUR OF DUTY WILL BE ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS (PRN).
Physical Standards/Requirements : Moderate lifting 15-44lbs; Ligth carrying under 15lbs; Walking up to 1 hr; Standing for long periods up to 8 hrs; Hearing aid permitted; Mental and emotional stability required. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
English Language Proficiency . Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
In
order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:
Basic Requirements :

Must be
proficient in written and spoken English.
- Degree of doctor of Medicine or an eqiuvalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State,! Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, o! r in the District of Columbia.
- Citizen of the United States. Non citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
Experience: Board certified .

VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part
II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human
Resources Office.
Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the! year in which the degree was granted. Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure. For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.
