Position Summary The CRNA administers any number of agents to either relieve pain and/! or make patients unconscious for surgical or diagnostic procedures. Administration of anesthesia may be intravenous, inhalation, intramuscular or regional techniques (spinal epidural or other blocks. During the administration of anesthesia, the CRNA closely monitors the patient's response by monitoring temperature,pulse,blood pressure,heart rate and respiration. The standard ASA recommended monitors, EKG, pulse oximetry, end tidal CO2and non-invasive blood pressure. If indicated the use of invasive monitoring will be utilized, this may include arterial line CVP/ SWANZ and cardiac output monitoring. During surgery, the CRNA will continue to monitor the patient for symptoms of distress. The CRNA will initiate treatment for any adverse effects of surgery and/or anesthesia. Other duties and responsibilities include; Assess the patients medical history and how it may affect the patient's response the anesthesia Assess the patient's pain management needs prior to surgery Decide w! hich drugs and techniques best fit the patients needs Educate ! the patient about the process to be used Give local/regional or general anesthesia as appropriate for the procedure Monitor patient's response during and after the procedure Initiate emergency measures as needed if the patient reacts badly to anesthesia Assist in the resuscitation of the critical ill or severely traumatized patient Keep knowledge about new drugs and techniques as they become available Abides to hospital and department policies Commits and observes BMH core values Administers anesthesia not only in OR, but also remote areas such as Endo lab, MRI, CT, Cath lab. May perform medical non-surgical procedures;i.e.IV insertion, intubation and airway management in routine and acute medical situations Prepares medications; maintains anesthesia equipment to keep in safe operating condition Maintains accounting of controlled substances The CRNA is a member of the anesthesthesia care team Other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements EDUCATION Ability to obtain a South ! Carolina CRNA License EXPERIENCE Preferred but not required CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES Certified by AANA after graduating from an approved school of anesthesia for nurses and passing the certification exam. Recertified by Council for Recertification by obtaining 40 containing Maintain a current license in South Carolina and privileges as an advanced practice nurse. BLS and ACLS certification required. PALS certification preferred. Competent to provide anesthesia to all age's groups.
